The Schalke defender has insisted that he is fit to feature in the league clash against Greuther Furth this weekend after recovering from a knee injury.
The centre-back suffered a knock in the last league clash against FC Augsburg and had to withdraw from http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Cape-Verde-c2866 Islands. The match was an away game for the Cameroonians which they lost 2-0 to the shock of the fans.
The reverse fixture will be played in Cameroon on October 12 for which Matip should be available. The African giants are in danger of missing out for the second time in a row on the African Cup of Nations.
Matip explained that he was unable to recover from the knee injury he suffered against Augsburg on Saturday, September 1, in the 3-1 win at home. He insisted that he was not fit for international duty, but a week-long training session means that he is fit for the next league game against Greuther Furth.
“I took a blow to the knee against Augsburg and was in considerable pain afterwards. It swelled up during the game but our medical team has done a great http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Job-c18684 yet again. I've had to do a special week-long training programme,” he was quoted as saying in an interview.
The defender is delighted to have recovered from the knock and feels good to be back for training with the first team.
“I'm glad to be back out on the pitch. I feel good and am well on the way to recovery. I'm really looking forward to it because I'll see some of my former teammates again,” he continued.
The Cameroon international is looking forward to the clash against Greuther Furth and is targeting all three points against the newly promoted side.
“All friendships are suspended during the 90 minutes, however. We're determined to win at Furth,” he concluded.
Joel Matip has thus far made 76 league appearances for Schalke and has scored six goals in the process. The central defender also has five international caps to his name and is yet to score a goal for his country.
