Joel Moon named to New Zealand Warriors side taking on Canterbury Bulldogs - National Rugby League
Joel Moon has been called up to the New Zealand Warriors side that is going head to head with the Canterbury Bulldogs on July 15, in Auckland. Joel Moon has not played a match for the last three months due to unimpressive performances in the early games
of National Rugby League and has now been recalled to take the place of injured Lewis Brown.
Lewis Brown was declared unfit to carry on in the current season for a minimum of four weeks following a severe blow to his ankle during their last game against the Gold Coast.
Joel Moon joined the New Zealand Warriors in 2009 and has played 75 NRL matches. The player had played at various positions for the Warriors, prominently on first-five and centre. He started off the NRL season with the Brisbane Broncos in 2006 and played
three seasons with the team.
Later on, he was inspired by Warriors but his performance with the side has never been impressive. He has scored 12 tries in the 43 outings for the Warriors and has scored only 48 points for the unit.
Talking to reporters on his inclusion in the Warriors team, Moon said that it is an important call up for him and will have to make his best in the upcoming matches. He added that, "The last eight weeks is crucial to my career. I have to capitalise on that."
The Warriors coach Ivan Cleary, defended Moon’s inclusion in the side and said that he was the best available player to replace Lewis Brown. Cleary has made just one change in his starting line up from their last match against the Gold Coast. The side won
their match after four consecutive defeats in the ongoing season.
Cleary further added that, "He's the best man for the job. He was there early in the season and he has done the job before. I'm sure he can do it this week."
The Warriors will take on the Canterbury Bulldogs on July 15, with following players:
1 Kevin Locke 2 Bill Tupou 3 Joel Moon 4 Shaun Berrigan 5 Manu Vatuvei 6 James Maloney 7 Shaun Johnson 8 Russell Packer 9 Aaron Heremaia 10 Jacob Lillyman 11 Feleti Mateo 12 Simon Mannering (c) 13 Micheal Luck
Reserves: 14 Lance Hohaia 15 Sam Rapira 16 Ben Matulino 17 Elijah Taylor 18 Steve Rapira
