Joel Przybilla, Kenyon Martin in the frame for Miami Heat – NBA Update
Could Joel Przybilla and Kenyon Martin be the answer to Miami Heat’s hunt for adding depth to their frontcourt?
According to ESPN.com, Heat president Pat Riley has offered contracts to the two veterans recently. According to reports, Przybilla has yet to choose amongst Chicago Bulls and Miami Heat, while Martin also has a number of choices to ponder upon.
The 35 year old K-Mart was most recently in China, playing for the Xinjiang Flying Tigers but left the team in December. As things stand, he will not be able to sign a contract with the Heat for another two weeks, i.e., until Xinjiang’s season is over.
Starting his NBA career in 2000, Martin has been associated with New Jersey Nets and Denver Nuggets. During that career span, the power forward has scored at an average of 13.5 points per game.
Heat are looking for an adequate option on number four, but they have players on this position. Chris Bosh along with Udonis Haslem play at this position and on occasions they also use LeBron James for that spot as well. It is not clear whether Martin will be a better replacement, and how much time will he get to play as number four in the presence of above mentioned giants.
Nevertheless with Martin’s 8.6 points, 51 percent shooting and 6.2 rebounds average per game in the last season, it certainly makes him an enticing option. There is currently a long list of teams that will be interested to see Martin aboard. Teams like Los Angeles Lakers, Los Angeles Clippers and New York Knicks are some of the suitable options for the big man.
Joel Przybilla is 7'1"; his strong stature is a suitable option for the position of centre, one which Miami desperately needs. Joel played 36 games for the Charlotte Bobcats and Portland Trail Blazers last season and averaged 1.8 points and 4.0 rebounds.
He had been out of the action due to injuries but now after recovering, he is good option on the bench.
Miami Heat are having a great run so far in this season, with 16 victories and 6 defeats they stand on the 4th position in Eastern Conference. But the point is that Heat roster stands at 15 already so there is a current slot opening for one. Let’s see who that one will be.
