Joel Rosario narrowly survives the injury at Del Mar riding title on 18th August
Joel Rosario nearly escaped an injury when he was racing for his straight third riding title at the Del Mar. However, when he was examined at the Southern California track’s first aid station, there was nothing amiss with him and issues none the sort due
to which he could not ride.
Joel is a 23-year-old jockey for American Thoroughbred racing. He stood 5th in the national earning after making $13,073,777 through winning 284 races out of 1476 mounts during this year.
He has won first position at different events with Gab Power, Algonquin Posse, Burn The Mortgage and Chinese Praise. Besides these he has rode many other horses throughout his career.
Joel was unseated in the stretch of his 5th race which was a one-mile turf event when his horse, Ali’s Lake suffered quite a serious injury to her right foreleg. She is the daughter of sire, Meadowlake, and dam, Tin Pan Aly, with 41 starts, 7
wins, 6 places and 13 shows. Her career earnings are $146,285.
It has been reported that she was making a bid for the lead when she seemed to have taken a miscalculated step on the Jimmy Durante Turf Course. Later she was taken away in an ambulance and had to be euthanized later.
She is trained by Jerry Hollendorfer.
Even though Joel had to dismount, he was later on board with Double D’s Diamond who finished 6th. It was a shoulder to shoulder between Bailout Minister and Rosario. Bailout Minister is owned by Theresa and Edward Denike and is trained by Paddy
Gallagher.
Bailout Minister presented Rosario with his second win of the day and the 24th of the season.
Now the connections are awaiting the return of the thoroughbred, Ali Lake. The injury seemingly is not a minor one and would take the filly some while to recover and return.
It can only be wished that this injury does not bring any major adverse impact on the racing life of the horse.
The fans of course will be regularly keeping up with further updates on the treatment status of the horse and the recovery phases alike. Wishing the filly a get well soon!!
