Joel Rosario to take over from Rosie Napravnik over Flat Out in the Gold Cup
Fans and racegoers are expecting a big performance from, Flat Out, and one of those hopefuls is the 6-year-old’s trainer, Bill Mott, who thinks that his runner is saving a big run for a big occasion, and in the Breeders’ Cup pre season, it doesn’t get bigger
than the Grade 1 Jockey Club Gold Cup at Belmont Park on 29 September, 2012.
Flat Out has won the 2011 Jockey Club Gold Cup over a muddy track, but Flatter’s son has so far failed to replicate his 2011 form this season so far, but a second in the Grade 2 Monmouth Cup over a mile this July, and a late third place finish in the Grade
1 Whitney Handicap indicates that Flat Out is slowly coming to his own.
Bill Mott, who is already loaded over the Breeders’ Cup previews this weekend at Belmont Park, will send out his champion mare, Royal Delta to run in the Grade 1 Beldame, while Ron the Greek will look to come back to winning ways in the Gold Cup.
To Honor and Serve will represent Mott in the Grade 2 Kelso Handicap at Belmont Park, but the conditioner will be hoping that Flat Out comes good ahead of the Breeders’ Cup Classic, and for that he has made the essential changes.
Jockey Rosie Napravnik, who rode Flat out in the Monmouth Cup and the Whitney Handicap, will be replaced by Joel Rosario.
Bill Mott took over Flat Out’s training from Scooter Dickey at the start of this year, and he feels that Flat Out is now approaching his peak.
Last year, Flat Out finished no better than fifth in the Breeders’ Cup Classic, but lost by only three lengths to winner, Drosselmeyer, but this year Flat Out looks a real threat.
"He's doing very well," Mott said. "I'm happy with his works, and it seems like he feels good and is ready to run. I gave him a fair amount of time to get over the Whitney. He's run well over this track (two-for-two), and that has to be a bonus."
"We'll see how he rides the horse and he'll see how the horse runs," Mott said. "We haven't looked beyond that. He's a very capable rider and I hope they make a good team."
