Joel Sjöholm shares the second position after round two of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship
Joel Sjöholm of Sweden continued his great touch in the second round of the Alfred Dunhill Links Championship and shared the second spot on the leaderboard, on Friday, October 5, 2012.
Right from the beginning of the tournament at St. Andrews, Sjöholm is displaying some good set of skills on the course. He got off to a brilliant start on Thursday and recorded seven birdies for a seven-under par 65.
On day two, he kept the momentum going and signed the same number of birdies. However, a double bogey six on the seventh hole blemished his scorecard on Friday.
At the end of the day, he settled for a 67 that took him to the shared second place on the leaderboard.
The Swede is now five strokes behind the leader, Branden Grace, who followed his stunning 60 in the opening round, with a 67 on day two.
At the end of the round, Sjöholm seemed really happy with his overall performance. According to him, he was a bit lucky to post a good score, especially when his tee shots were finding the bunkers too often.
“It was a pleasure,” said Sjöholm. “This was the first time I have played 18 holes at St Andrews, so it’s been an absolutely fantastic adventure for me”.
He added, “It has been a really good day.  Now I honestly understand why everybody’s talking so much about it, and I don’t know the history, so you cannot quiz me on that, but I guess that on a course like this a lot of things can happen. This course is
absolutely amazing”.
According to him, he could have positioned himself better. However, he failed to avail all the birdie chances that he created.
Moreover, it was really difficult to score when the course asked the players to make accurate shots. The rough was thick and the bushes at the side of the fairways added difficulty to the course.
Thorbjørn Olesen was the other player who shared the second spot with Sjöholm. He recorded a total of six birdies against three bogeys for a three-under par 69.
