Joel Walker qualifies for two-year pro tour: 2012 World Snooker Q School – Snooker News
After putting up an astounding snooker display at the World Snooker Academy in Sheffield, England’s Joel Walker was able to grab the two-year pro tour card. The Englishman performed impressively in the third event of the 2012 World Snooker Qualifying School
(Q School) and clinched the pro tour ticket after beating compatriot Justin Astley in the quarter-final stage of the event by the score line of 4-0.
Walker proved his class through his hard world and determination that he showed from the beginning of the tournament. The English potter did not give any chance to his compatriot and swept the table in no time during his game play in all four frames. Walker
will now be playing among all top guns of snooker across the globe and show his talent to the world.
Speaking to World Snooker after earning a spot in the professional circuit for the next two years, Walker said, “Those sessions with Ronnie were a big help in terms of improving my game. I also practise a lot with Nigel Bond and I think it's important to
play as much as possible with the top players.”
He added, “It's a dream come true to be going on the main tour, it's all I've wanted for as long as I can remember. I'd been playing really well coming into Q School and came here with high expectations, but then lost early on in the first two events.”
Walker emerged on the face of the game in 2010 when he claimed the trophy of 2010 Rileys Future Stars junior snooker competition and had a chance to play under the observation and coaching of the four-time World Snooker Championship winner, England’s Ronnie
O’Sullivan. The Rocket gave him all the required tips to unsettle the opponent which eventually paid off for Walker.
During his Q School run, Walker had some twisting snooker competitions in the previous four rounds. He faced four comparatively experienced snooker players and was able to triumph over all of them to book a quarter-final spot against Astley.
During his regatta run, Walker ousted Shaun Wilkes by 4-1 in Round 1, Adrian Ridley by 4-1 in Round 2, Adam Wicheard by 4-3 in round 3 and John Sutton by 4-3 in Round 4.
