The controversial midfielder has often found himself in trouble and is currently serving a 12-match ban imposed on him by the Football Association. The England international, who is currently on a season-long loan to Olympique de Marseille, said that aggressiveness
is part of his game and he won’t change his style of play.
Joey Barton was talking to reporters at a press conference and when asked about his troublesome past, the former Manchester City player stated that people call him a bad boy and he is aware of that. However, the midfielder believes that playing aggressively
is a part of him game and one has to play physical from time to time in football.
The Englishman added that playing with skills and being a nice guy do not help all the time, and players often need to change their style of play to fit in.
"I don't know [if I'm a bad boy], I'm just me. Sometimes it's good to play with skill moves, being a nice guy, and sometimes you need to change your game, you play physical, you have to fight fire with fire.”
Barton said that he just want to win each and every game because he is a competitor, which often gets him in trouble.
"I just want to win and I do not want problems with anybody, I'm a competitor. Everyone has a different way of showing it. If I win, I'm happy, if I don't win, I'm not."
