Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314 midfielder Joey Barton has claimed he believes he is good enough to be a part of the England squad, guaranteed he was better behaved of course.
The 29-year-old went on to discredit manager Roy Hodgson’s decision to call up Liverpool youngster Jordan Henderson after http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Frank-Lampard-c14097 was ruled out due to injury. According to Barton, the English manager could have done better while
selecting the squad for the European Championships.
Barton himself was not even considered for a place with the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 squad and he will be serving a 12 match ban once the new English Premier League season kicks off. The midfielder was sent off against Manchester City on the last day of the Premier League
season for elbowing striker http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Vincent-Kompany-c36184.
However, Barton was confident he had what it took to be part of the Three Lions squad competing in the European tournament.
Barton said on his Twitter:
“Why are people giving me loads [of abuse] about England saying 'cant get in squad etc'. On ability I walk into the squad, on behaviour I don't... #fact.”
The former Newcastle United player felt that if http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 players in the England squad, which comes as a surprise since the Reds finished
eighth in the English Premier League.
He revealed:
“If Henderson got in, any Englishman not currently in the squad has to feel aggrieved. Yes, I wish I was there but I'm not...
Everyone's thinking it I'll say it. Liverpool have an horrific season and have six players in our euro squad. What chance do we have. Pick on form.”
Barton believed that while England had a decent chance at doing well in the tournament, they would only perform well if they did not have any injuries.
Barton continued:
“If everyone stays fit, we've got a decent 11 once [Wayne] Rooney's back.
If any of the keys players get a knock, we are done for. Three games in eight/nine days takes its toll on the body.”
