Joey Barton dedicates win to Chris Hughton
Newcastle United went on to beat Liverpool by a score line of three goals to one last night, in what happened to by Alan Pardew's first game as the manager of the team. However, despite that fact, many of the team's players went
on to dedicate their victory on the night to former manager Chris Hughton instead.
Joey Barton, who was the stand out performer for Newcastle on the night, ended up getting involved in an argument with Fernando Torres, but soon after he went on to set up the team to pick up the winning goal. He then went on to
dedicate his victory to Hughton, who was sacked on Monday.
The player is reported to have said, "The king is dead, long live the king.”
"It was a tough week. We were all disappointed to lose Chris. He was a great man and everyone has said how dignified he was and how much of a gentleman he was.
"He's one of the nice guys of football and it's a shame. It's a cruel game."
However, Pardew instead of being angered by the players comments, went on to state that he understood where the player was coming from when he said those words and he backed him a hundred percent in his decision. He then stated
that he did not want to get involved in any off-field antics and was happy with the fact that the team picked up the win.
Newcastle got off to a bright start as a Joey Barton’s free-kick was ultimately turned in by Kevin Nolan on the fifteenth minute. Liverpool went on to equalize in the second-half via Dirk Kuyt, but Liverpool's celebrations were
cut short as both Barton and Andy Carroll got on the score sheet to give Newcastle the comfortable win in the game.
Padrew dedicated the win to the team’s players, instead of trying to hog the glory all to himself as he went on to state,
"But the win today was really about the players because they showed their spirit and their unity out there and they made it easy for me just to add a couple of things."
On the other end of things, Roy Hodgson was disgusted with his team’s performance in the second half of the match. He is reported to have said that he still has a lot of work to do with the team, if they stand any chance of making
it back into the top four of the Premier League by the end of the season.
