The 30-year-old has apologised to his teammates for his first red card in Ligue 1 but coach, Elie Baup, does not believe that the former Manchester City player deserved that punishment
The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 on-loan midfielder was shown two yellow cards in the space of just five minutes in the game against Nancy. His sending off played a big role in Marseille’s defeat at the hands of a team fighting relegation battle and the player
is aware of that fact.
While talking to reporters, the 30-year-old stated that he is disappointed with his hand in the defeat and he took the blame on himself. Barton, who is famous for his bad temper, said that he knows his mistake and he is really sorry for what happened on
the pitch. However, the midfielder feels that his tackles weren’t that dangerous and he didn’t deserve that punishment.
"I am very disappointed. I am partly responsible for this loss. I have to apologise to my team-mates. The referee made his decisions, but I don't think either of my tackles was too dangerous."
Marseille coach, Elie Baup, is also of the view that Joey Barton’s yellow cards were harsh and he could have gotten away with those tackles any other day. The 57-year-old said that OM weren’t playing well against Nancy and Barton’s sending off killed the
game for his side on the pitch. Playing with a man less is never easy and Nancy tool full advantage of the situation out there.
"The game turned with the expulsion of Barton. We had not been brilliant in the game, but there was no real danger (before the red card). Being down to ten men made things more difficult."
The boss added that in his view Joey Barton’s tackles were legal and he didn’t deserve two bookings for those two challenges. However, the coach has asked his players to move on and forget about the loss and focus on the upcoming games in Ligue 1 and Cup
competitions.
“His first card was unjustified since there was no foul, and on the second he was committed to trying to get the ball," Baup added.
