The 30-year-old believes that he has made the right choice by moving to Olympique de Marseille, and is relishing the idea of playing in France for the first time in his career
The controversial midfielder secured a move to Stade Velodrome last week, on a season-long loan deal from English Premier League side, Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314.
And the England international has defended his decision of moving to the Ligue 1, and has vowed to prove his doubters wrong.
The former Newcastle played stated that he was never in doubt about moving to Les Phoceens, and he feels honoured to be a part of this great club.
While many people have questioned his decision to move away from the Premier League, Barton stated that the opportunity to play for a club like Marseille was too good to turn down.
“A few of my mates have questioned me about a Marseille move being right, yet I knew in my stomach that it was the perfect opportunity for me.”
The 30-year-old added that he wanted a new experience in his life. Barton has spent his entire career in the Premier League, and a chance to play abroad, was very tempting.
Not many Englishmen have played outside the Premier League and Joey Barton wants to succeed here with Marseille.
“I wanted to experience a new culture, learn a new language, and to feel that I am moving out of my comfort zone. After all, how many Englishmen play on the continent and actually do well”
