Joey Barton’s agent Willie Mckay, confirms the inclination of the controversial midfielder towards Ligue 1 despite all odds

The departure of talented Alou Diarra to West Ham and the impending uncertainty over the future of Stephane M’bia has led to Marseille looking for timely replacements. The prospect of Joey Barton joining Marseille seems well to be in the making and follows
as a promising replacement.
With a sensational attacking flair and exceptional skills attributed to the 29-year-old, the Ligue 1 club believes that Barton will be a perfect recruit in the current situation.
Not only do the attributes associated to the Englishmen excite Marseille, the player’s current standoff with QPR is another reason why the two parties have been looking forward to the proposed season long deal.
Joey Barton’s relation with Mark Hughes, the current manager of the newly assembled squad of QPR, has also reached its lowest ebb, thanks to the bad boy attitude of the former Newcastle man.
On the contrary, the disgruntled QPR man has already expressed his desire to see off Loftus Road to embark on an exciting journey at Ligue 1. Barton said, “When I was young, I supported Everton and every time PSG played Liverpool in the European Cup, I wanted
them to win. However, I still have a lot of work to do here. But who knows what the future holds for me”.
According to Mckay, “Joey wants to play in Marseille this season”. The agent added, “We are negotiating but nothing is done for now”. The agent did not reveal much as he added, “I don’t want to comment with respect for the manager of Marseille, Jose Anigo,
and the President Vincent Labrune”.
The deal however, could have been fetched much earlier, had the 12 match ban imposed by FA on Barton not been transferred to another league in case the player wants to make a switch to a different league. It however, seems imminent that, Ligue 1 is going
to respect FA’s verdict in the case and will be imposing the ban on the player.
It is up to Marseille now to decide if they are to gamble on a player with a tainted past and looming one-third of the season’s unavailability or they decide otherwise.
