The controversial midfielder can’t wait to kick start his Ligue 1 career with Olympique de Marseille and was delighted to have scored a screamer against Borussia Monchengladbach
In his fourth game for http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 International, Joey Barton scored one of the best goals of the season when his corner kick found the back of the net against Borussia Monchengladbach in a Europa League encounter at the Stade Velodrome.
And, after a difficult week during which his grandfather passed away, the midfielder has said that the club is now even more deeply in his heart than ever before after the management showed such respect for his grief.
“Playing for OM, it was tough for me. My grandfather died, he was buried on Thursday and the club sent a wreath. OM showed full respect for my grief, let me spend a week by his bedside. It was my family who told me, ‘play your game instead of coming to the
funeral.’ OM is now even more deeply in my heart.”
Decisive this Thursday, the former Newcastle United man just can’t wait for another two weeks before he makes his Ligue 1 debut. The midfielder was suspended for nine games by the English FA last season and his ban was carried by the Ligue 1.
And, it will be against Lille that Barton will make his debut. The Englishman feels that playing irregularly due to the ban has affected his form so he will be able to do better than before once he starts playing week in week out.
Once the suspension is over, Barton aims to become an important part of Elie Baup’s side. The 31-year-old knows that he can do better and establish himself as a regular starting XI player.
“I can do better and establish myself in the team. In addition, when I play, there are often senior players who are rested for the Europa League. However, I am convinced that a team needs continuity. I want to be available in every game. We still needs Gignac
who would be sorely missed in any team.”
And, the Englishman knows that Marseille can go for the domestic title.
