The 30-year-old has heaped praise on Marseille’s fans in a recent interview with the club website, and has also criticised supporters of Paris Saint-Germain
Joey Barton is currently on-loan at Stade Velodrome till the end of the season and there have been strong suggestions that the player will permanently sign up for the Rhone giants before the start of the 2013/2014 Ligue 1 campaign. The player has openly
expressed his desire to make a permanent move to Marseille in the future and the 30-year-old is of the view that the supporters of the club are the best in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899.
While talking to the official website of the club, Barton stated that the best thing about being a Marseille player is that you get the backing of the supporters regardless of the results. People from Marseille support Les Phoceens and OM is in their blood.
The club is like a family to them and it is a very pleasing factor for the players as well.
"When you're born in Marseille, I don't think you have any other choice than to be an OM supporter. It starts with the family. OM is in people's blood," he told the club’s official website.
Criticising the supporters of Paris Saint-Germain, the http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international said that the cash-laden club from Paris has gathered a massive fan base recently because of the high profile arrivals at the club. However, the midfielder feels that they are not
loyal to their club. Talking about the game between PSG and Ajaccio, Barton said that PSG supporters started leaving even before the final whistle because they wanted their team to score more goals.
"I saw PSG's game against Ajaccio," he said. "Ten minutes from the end, everyone was leaving, just because they weren't winning five or six-nil.
The 30-year-old added that real fans do not do such things and no matter what they back their players till the very end. Barton added that such supporters are merely people who pay to watch the match.
“That's not a fan who does that, just someone who's paid to watch the match. It's different. A supporter stays right to the end."
