The man at the helm of every controversy, Joey Barton, compares Marseille with Liverpool as he spent his youth at the Merseyside
The 29-year-old has seen his proposed season-long loan deal to Marseille subject to tatters after news emerged that Ligue 1 will be enforcing the FA ban imposed on Joey Barton. The player was found guilty of misconduct in a mass brawl with Manchester City
players in the last season's final match.
But as the transfer window is rapidly coming to an end, renewed interest in the player has reignited the prospect of a proposed swap, with Marseille agreeing to afford 50% of the player’s wages in a season-long deal.
The swap comes in the form of Stephane M’bia from Marseille to QPR. With the deal agreed between the two clubs for M’bia, Barton’s departure away from Loftus Road has become imminent.
The 12-match ban imposed on the midfielder has been the point of contention for Marseille, and reports had surfaced that the deal was likely to collapse. Even, Joey Barton had earlier in the week admitted that he does not see himself at Marseille next season.
Barton is however on the brink of joining Les Phoceens, in a season-long deal, which will provide the talented midfielder with a fresh start to his already dodgy career.
The deal is expected to be completed later today. It is pertinent to mention here that Barton has already had his medical in France and only formal modalities are to be chalked out. The jubilant Englishman was quoted by RMC as, “This is the first time I
have come to the city, the port”.
“It is just like Liverpool, a coastal city with a large port. There are many similarities between the two.” The player went on to add, “In Liverpool football is life, it is passion. When the team wins, the city is happy. It is the same for Marseille.”
The player has already publically stated that he is looking forward to life in France, despite doubts that the bad boy of the game might not be able to settle in the new league. “To me, this is normal. A lot of players do not understand this passion, but
I do and this is why I play football” added Barton.
