The controversial midfielder was loaned out to Ligue 1 outfit, http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Olympique-de-Marseille-c40127 at the start of the season by his parent side, Queens Park Rangers, and there are serious doubts over the England international’s future.
While talking to BBC.com, the 30-year-old stated that he hasn’t decided anything about his future and he is taking things step by step. Although the player would love to stay in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899 for another season or two, going back to England is not out of the equation
yet.
The midfielder added that he is enjoying his time with Marseille and extending his stay here would be great, but is keeping his options open.
“I haven’t closed my mind to it (going back), although I would really like to stay here. I’m in a good space mentally.”
Barton revealed that he has held talks with Marseille regarding extending his stay at Stade Velodrome but added that things are far from certain and it isn’t the right time to talk about such stuff.
“I have held preliminary talks with Olympique de Marseille about extending my stay here. They have asked me whether I would stay beyond the loan period or not.”
Talking about his time with Queens Park Rangers, the 30-year-old said that he wasn’t happy in West London and things didn’t go the way he planned.
“It didn’t end in great circumstances in West London for me,” said Barton
On a question regarding the new manager at QPR, Barton said that he is aware of that but added that everything depends on how the R’s will perform in the remaining games of the season and their survival depend on that.
Managerial change sometimes helps a club but the midfielder has stated that he will not make a decision about his future right now and will wait for the season to end.
“I know there has been a change in terms of the management structure, but something like that, and what goes on around that, lives with you beyond a managerial change.”
