The http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/England-c749 international has appealed to Marseille fans not to judge him on his troublesome past, saying that the English media has been unfair to him
The 30-year-old has admitted that he made a lot of mistakes during his time in England, and knows that his disciplinary troubles will continue to haunt him even in http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/France-c2899.
The midfielder, who moved to Olympique de Marseille this summer from English Premier League side, Queens Park http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Rangers-c40314, feels that the English media has treated him unfairly over the years.
However, Barton said that some of the incidents in which he was involved in were really bad and it won’t be easy for him to make amends.
"It is difficult because my bad reputation, I find it a bit unfair but it's hard to say that when you look at some of the incidents in which I've been involved.”
Despite his controversial past, the Englishman is expecting better treatment in France and has appealed to the fans to judge him on his performances on the pitch, and not on his past records. Barton added that media can be misleading at times and not everything
they say about him is true.
"I hope that people in France, and here in Marseille, judge me on what I do here and not in relation to what they read.”
Criticising the English media, the former Newcastle United player said that English press loves to make dramatic headlines just to get attention. And for that, they often make baseless stories about players, without considering the consequences.
"The English media loves to make headlines and dramatise because, as English football is the number one sport there, it is also one that generates the most media coverage on television and in the press.”
Barton added that he often reads stuff about him and it’s like he is reading a movie script. English media loves to make stories which are far from truth and it’s really annoying.
"They are stories like Hollywood, far from the truth."
