Joey Coulter enjoying rookie season with Austin Dillon in Camping World Truck Series – NASCAR news
Joey Coulter has said that driving with Austin Dillon is a great experience and Dillon is a great help in his first season in the Camping World Truck Series.
Coulter has managed to impress a lot of people with a couple of sound performances in the 2011 season.
Currently Rookie of the Season, Coulter finished 11th in his first ever appearance at the New Hampshire Motor Speedway.
Coulter is currently 7th in the overall points standings for the Camping World Truck Series title but is not looking too far ahead of himself and is content with just picking up points as the races come along.
Coulter said that he had initially aimed for a top 10 finish for this season but with 6 races to go, he wants to step it up and finish in the top 5.
Coulter was also full of praise and admiration for teammate Austin Dillon. Dillon is in his second year into the Camping World Truck Series and is currently leading the leadership board for the Truck Series Championship. Dillon is just two months older than
Coulter and was the 2010 Rookie of the Season.
“He's an awesome teammate. This is the first season that I've had a teammate, and it's been great working with him,” said Coulter. “Us younger bucks don't have nearly the experience of the older guys. But I think because we're basically the same age, we
connect really well. We seem to have the same feel for the truck at different tracks.”
Coulter felt that he and Dillon had a lot in common, especially in their driving styles. Both have come from different racing backgrounds, with Dillon starting in the dirt background and Coulter driving in paved tracks. Coulter also said that Dillon helped
him adjust to the tracks he has never driven in before and has been a great teammate to drive with.
Coulter is currently studying Mechanical Engineering at the University of North Carolina and thinks that this will give him more knowledge of the car and a totally different race experience. He wants to be on the same plane as the team engineers so that
communication within the team is easier and he understands what he wants from the car.
