I'm sure some of you might remember the shoot interview that Joey Styles performed on a live edition of Raw a couple of years ago. The link is above if you don't remember.

My question is, was it real or kayfabe? I still can't figure it out. There must have been some truth behind what he said, otherwise there wouldn't be no need to go to the lengths of saying some things he said about Vince making out with the Diva's.

So, was it kayfabe, or real? And what do you think about shoot interviews as a whole...are they good or bad?

  1. I think it was real, if not he should get an OSCAR he did a great act

but if it was real what i think it was- then i dont know what to say--because he is right about everything

  2. The things he said were things that were really felt by some, but WWE allowed this, because this shoot set up the return of ECW, which WWE was planning on banking in on.

So though Joey said a lot of things that people saw as truths, it was a storyline..an him saying things that people thought were true only helped make the storyline more intense.

But both WWE and Joey Styles were in on this together...

  3. Wow that looked real but if that was real maybe he had problems with wwe

  4. It was a generally worked shoot. The WWE allowed him to say his own feeling about the product and gave him the promo time, although they likely edited in a few lines, as the part where Styles blames the audience seems like a scripted part.

Shoot promos can work. This Styles promo and Heyman's famous promo during One Night Stand are examples of good shoot promos. However, the problem with shoot promos is that only a few people actually understand the meaning of them, thus confusing most of the fanbase. And if the fans don't understand what's going on, they won't care. Didn't shoot promos lead to the animosity between Shawn Michaels and Bret Hart as well? Shows that shoots can do a lot of harm. I could also do without the breaking of kayfabe involved in shoots too.

In the right context at the right time when enough of the fans understand what is going on, a shoot promo can work. Most times, however, it doesn't.
