Joey Votto halts on signing off on a long term agreement
The Cincinnati Reds have been improving in the National League (NL) and one player to come off as an asset to the side is none other than Joey Votto. The first baseman won the NL 2010 Most Valuable Player award, this season and while the club is signing
on players, the management has been particularly interested in signing Votto on a contract extension.
Votto commented on what he would be like in the coming years. He said, "I don't know as far as beyond three years. I think it's a real unfair question to ask. This is not me saying I don't want to be here. But last year was a difficult year for me. This
year was a better year for me. It's really hard for me to think three years ahead, five years ahead, seven years ahead or 10 years ahead".
However, Joey was quick to praise the Reds as he commented on his future plans. He said, "It could be one year. It could be eleventy-bagillion years. It doesn't matter. The point is they want me on the team. That's a compliment in and of itself. I know I
won the MVP but to have a Major League contract when it comes time, that's a huge compliment. I consider that an accomplishment".
Votto looks to pounce in a suitable deal for the future and one of the concerns of any team in the league would be the level of consistency in the Cincinnati ball club. The team accomplished a lot by reaching the playoffs this year and many suggest that
Votto is not going to be easily swayed in so early. A one year contract extension seems like a possibility but there is no assurance in what the strong hitter wished to accomplish.
Many believe he’ll move for a deal if the Reds pull up their socks in the coming days. Many expect Joey to win major professional trophies and one big concern for the side could be the team’s capability to pull off a generous run to the playoffs, next season.
Votto claims the major concern he has is with winning more games and competitions in Major League Baseball. The more he sees himself strive for the ultimate accolades in the league, the more he’ll avail, in terms of money. While many see players signing
off on major contracts early, to secure earnings and positions in a club, Votto would rather like to hang back on his decision for the long run.
