Joey Votto’s triple RBIs help Cincinnati Reds defeat Pittsburgh Pirates 5-4 - MLB Update

Cincinnati Reds’ first baseman, Joey Votto was remarkable with the bat as he hit three RBIs including a three-run homer and went 1-for-5 with an average of .322 in the Reds’ 5-4 win against the Pittsburgh Pirates at PNC Park, Pittsburgh on August 21.
Pirates got off to a quick start and smashed two runs at the bottom of first inning to take a 2-0 lead. Andrew McCutchen struck a two-run homer (396 feet) to left-centre and Jose Tabata scored a single run to lift the potential of Pirates. The next four
innings were score-less as the pitchers overcome the batters through their outstanding pitches.
During second inning, Drew Stubbs hit by pitch but Paul Janish struck-out swinging and then Stubbs got out to second base when Ryan Hanigan hit a grounder into double play, short-stop to second base and second to first base. Similarly, Pirates also failed
to increase their lead as the batters flied out and grounded out at the bottom of fourth inning.
Pirates missed some runs during fifth inning as at short-stop position, Ronny Cedeno grounded out while Brandon Wood and James McDonald both struck-out swinging without playing scoring shots. Both teams advanced their individual score-card in the sixth inning
as Reds scored three runs to go-ahead but Pirates posted two runs to remain on top with 4-3 lead, at the end of sixth inning.
Votto contributed a three-run homer (411 feet) towards right-centre while Brandon Phillips and Fred Lewis both added two collective runs for Reds. On the other side, Garrett Jones hit a two-run homer (377 feet) to right-field and Tabata scored the leading
run for Pirates. The pitchers managed to control the seventh and eighth inning without any run.
Reds’ starter, Mike Leake pitched his six innings superbly as he surrendered four runs, five hits, one walk and two homers on his 90 pitches. He struck-out five batters and allowed four earned runs with an ERA of 4.09. In the ninth inning, Reds went ahead
5-4 by adding two runs. Todd Frazier scored a single run when Ramon Hernandez singled towards left-field and Dave Sappelt moved to second base.
The second or leading run for Reds was taken by Sappelt when Phillips hit a grounder into fielder’s choice to second base. However, Reds sealed the three-game series 2-1 after getting an exciting win.
