Jogging Routine?

Well, I want to start jogging during the summer. I am relatively fit but I don't exercise very much. I have seen many things such as walk for 30 seconds, run for 30 seconds and some sites have mentioned a like training timetable. Does any have any they can recommend? Also what are some decent running shoes as I currently only have Air Force Ones, which arn't very suitable for running.

Thanks

  1. Well, one thing you should know is that when you're running, try to keep a steady pace. Don't do the thing where you're running for a while then walking then running then walking. I went to a 5 mile race a couple months ago and I ran the whole thing but other were walking and running and this health lady said that's not very good to be doing that to your heart cause you can get a heart attack. It's like a light bulb, turning it on and off constantly, it will soon break or something. As for shoes, go to Academy and they have good running shoes. Asics are good running shoes, they are made for running, and also some Nikes. Whichever works best.

  2. I agree with the above answerer. If you go into a running store or an athletic store they can hook you up with proper running shoes. I like New Balance ..

If you are relatively fit you should try to work on endurance first. It really helped me when I started. Try listening to your body. Push yourself to jog a bit more than you want to..but then walk until you feel ready to give it another push. Intervals are more helpful when you are more able to control how much you jog. That is just from personal experience.

If I were you I would first work on endurance and proper breathing...

  3. A good website would be a site called runner's world. Just enter the information it asks for and it will come up with a running schedule for you.

As for shoes, i would reccomend asics. I have heard that they are the best brand for running. Make sure that you get comfortable inserts too because your feet will start to hurt.

Go here and enter what it asks for and it will find a shoe that is for you.

If you plan on running alot i would suggest going to runnersworld.com and see what they have to offer. They give you  a training scedule, you can log all your runs, they can give you meal plans, and so much more

  4. http://www.coolrunning.com/

That site will set you up with a schedule so you know when, how long, how fast to run/jog, etc. It's important so that you don't overwork your body and get exhausted.. also remember to stretch before you run. For shoes, I'd suggest New Balance.. running with Nike or Adidas shoes has never worked well for me. Good luck.
