Joha to be offered as a racing prospect at Keeneland
Out of the stakes-winning Mujadil mare Mujado, the 2-year-old, Joha, the Grade 1 winner, who is currently owned by Bluegrass Equine Bloodstock will sell the colt at the Keeneland January horses for all ages, and the juvenile colt will be offered as a racing
prospect.
Currently trained by Michael J. Maker, Joha has impressed one and all with his stakes victories and placed finishes earlier this year, but when faced quality adversary on the last two occasions, the juvenile colt by Johar fell away and posted dismal rankings.
Bluegrass Equine Bloodstock homebred started his racing career over Keeneland’s synthetic footings on 12 April, 2012, but couldn’t defeat maidens, as he finished second to winner I’m Boundtoscore in the 4 ½ furlongs Maiden Special Weight race.
In his second attempt over the same venue, and the same distance on 26 April, Joha ran a big race, but couldn’t win it as he finished third on the day. On both occasions he was ridden by Julien Leparoux.
Joha broke his maiden at third asking, when Michael Maker provided the colt with the longer distance of 6 furlongs, and a new racetrack and surface. Over Belmont Park’s turf course, Joha prevailed to his first ever victory under new jockey Javier Castellano
on 24 May, 2012, as he clocked the distance in good time of 1 minute and 9.60 seconds.
Back to synthetic surface, Joha landed his first stakes race, and at Woodbine over six furlongs, the 2-year-old was able to win the Colin Stakes after a late surge at the wire.
In the Grade 2 With Anticipation, Joha was close to posting his first hat-trick, but lost by a head to winner, Balance the Books, who covered the 1 1/16 mile distance in 1 minute and 42.30 seconds.
Joha won his first Grade 1 race back at Keeneland’s synthetic surface, where he downed the Grade 1 Breeders’ Futurity by defeating a formidable lineup.
According to Bluegrass Equine Center general manager, Allen Kershaw, "This is an excellent opportunity for someone to buy a grade I winner who is sound and ready to race. Joha showed us his ability early on, and he has certainly proven it on the racetrack.
I believe he will continue to progress in 2013."
