Johan Bjorkman leads Sweden to draw against Belarus in EuroHockey Nations Championship II
Johan Bjorkman led the Swedish national hockey team to level their pool C match at 2-2 against their Belarusians counterparts in the men’s EuroHockey Nations Championship II played in Vinnitsa, Ukraine on Saturday, August 13.
The game was pretty close contest between the opponents who eventually managed to level in the end. Both of the teams played good hockey throughout the allotted time of seventy minutes where Belarusian men dominated the most part of the first half scoring
a solitary goal and on the contrast, the Swedish athletes remained more dominant in the second part of the game where they scored two goals while their rivals made a single strike in the similar time.
The match was played in a very tight mode as both the teams remained on a defensive note for most of the time in the first thirty five minutes. The first half progressed slowly with both the teams created a number of good scoring opportunities but failed
to convert those chances into goals. The match remained goalless until the last five minutes reached.
The Belarusians made some daring efforts throughout the first half but their real chance came just five minutes before the interval when they were awarded a penalty corner and Valery Kachmarski made no mistake in converting it into their opening goal of
the match that lasted till the interval. The first half ended at 1-0 to Belarus.
The second half was also started with a great action by the Belarusian men but it was not like the first half where they had to wait for a long time, in fact for thirty minutes. However, this time they quickly managed to find their way to the Swedish net
just six minutes into the second half when Ivan Kisialevich doubled the Belarusian lead in the 41st minute with a wonderful field goal.
After that the match remained in progress in the same fashion liken the first half where both the teams struggled to break the shatters for most of the time.
However, that was the later part of the second half when the Swedish men stunned their opponents by scoring two quick goals in very short span of four minutes and levelled the game. Their first strike came into play in the 58th minute when Magnus
Mattson scored the opening goal for Sweden, a splendid field goal, and just four minutes after the opener they once again ticked the board when Johan Bjorkman beautifully converted a penalty corner into the equaliser in the 62nd minute. The match
concluded at 2-2.
