Johan Botha all praise for Colin Ingram and Jacques Kallis – Cricket News Update
Happy to win the rain-ruined one-off T20 against India, the South Africa T20 captain Johan Botha praised Colin Ingram and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/JH-Kallis-c1692 for providing the Proteas’ bowlers a good total to defend.
"It was nice for Kallis and Colin to give us a good platform,” said Botha after his side won the rain-interrupted inconsequential T20 International by 11 runs using the Duckworth-Lewis method. “A 100-run partnership is good in any format but in twenty20
it is better. They provided a good base for us to launch the total," he added further.
After being put into bat in overcast conditions, Kallis and Ingram provided the hosts with a whirlwind start, putting 119 runs on the board for the second-wicket stand, to put the Proteas well in course to a daunting 219-run total. The three-digit partnership
came off just 13 overs.
Kallis scored 61-runsoff just 42-balls while Ingram played a blistering knock of 78 runs off 50 deliveries. Both the belligerent batsmen shared 18 boundaries among them, including five lofty sixes.
Botha singled out the 26-year-old left-handed Ingram for praise for playing an impressive knock at the top of the order against a formidable India side.
"Colin played within himself and definitely did a great job,” said Botha. “I knew he can do it and I am glad he could it on an international stage,” he added further.
Chasing a daunting 220-run target, India went off to an equally herculean start with openers http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Robin-Uthappa-c2356 and Gautam Gambhir putting on 71 runs inside eight overs, before rain stopped the match, helping the Proteas register an 11-run win via the D/L method.
Botha said that the match was evenly poised and the tourists could have given them a tough time had the weather Gods not intervened.
"It was evenly poised. Gauti and Robin started well but our guys also batted well on an excellent strip and I think going the way they did and getting 220 was excellent," said Botha after the match.
