Johan Bruyneel and Frank Schleck denied the Giro rift
It was believed that Frank Schleck and Johan Bruyneel’s relations were drifting apart after the cyclist abandoned the Giro d’ Italia .
Jakob Fuglsang was expected to ride the Luxembourg based team but he had to amend his plans because of the health constraints.
Frank was leading Team RadioShack-Nissan at the first Grand Tour race of the season, the Giro d’Italia.
The cyclist has not registered any victories in the season yet but was looking good to open his winning account at the Italian Grand Tour.
He was riding brilliantly during the race and was amongst the favourites to grab the top podium spot after the final general classifications.
Schleck finished third during the Tour de France 2011 and was looking ahead to improve his overall performance during the 2012 version of the French race.
However, Fuglsang’s injury opened a new door for Frank to lead the team at the Giro d’Italia but the stage 15 crash has ruined his plans for the Giro d’Italia 2012.
Team General Manager Johan Bruyneel was not sure if Frank’s injury was enough to abandon the race which created a controversy between the two.
While commenting on his current physical conditions, Schleck briefed, “It's not in my nature to give up”.
“A hematoma in both my neck and the articulation that I dislocated. These are putting pressure on the nerve system and are the cause of the pain”.
“Besides this, I still have the inflammation in the left leg, from overcompensating the painful shoulder with a cramped position on the bike”.
“I was called there very last minute, but I let it sink down and I grew into the race. My third place on one of the first hard stages gave me confidence”.
The 32-year-old is hopeful to recover in time for the French Grand Tour.
He finished 1 minute and 36 seconds behind his brother Andy and occupied the third position with Cadel Evans of Team BMC finishing at the top spot.
Bruyneel noted that Frank is expected to ride the Tour of Luxembourg and the Tour de Suisse and has not commented on his inclusion at the Tour de France squad.
