Johan Chaves Rubio wins the final stage of the Vuelta a Burgos, Daniel Moreno secured an overall victory
Johan Chaves Rubio succeeded during the 170 kilometre stage 5 of the Vuelta A Burgos after his splendid performance during the event that ended with a photo-finish.
The cyclist crossed the finish line in an impressive time of 4 hours17 minutes and 59 seconds and restricted Sergio Luis Henao for the second spot.
Igor Anton of Team Euskaltel-Euskadi finished 11 seconds behind at the third position with Daniel Moreno and Franco Pellizotti securing the fourth and the fifth positions respectively.
"I'm extremely satisfied with this victory and happy for myself, for my teammates and the whole team," said Chaves.
"This win might lead us to an exciting campaign in the second half of 2012".
Daniel Moreno wrapped-up a perfect 2012 Vuelta a Burgos with two stage victories, a first place finish at the point’s classifications and an overall victory at the race.
"This last stage wasn't easy because it was very hard with steep climbing," said Moreno.
"In the end I suffered a little bit. When Henao attacked it was hard to follow him, but I had a good gap in general classification so I tried to manage it”.
“On the last part of the uphill I gave my best in order to gain some precious seconds”.
Sergio Luis Henao fell 10 seconds short at the second position while Johan Chaves Rubio, Franco Pellizotti and Javier Moreno Bazan occupying the third, the fourth and the fifth positions respectively.
Daniel also wins the points classifications at the race with a total number of 84 points to his credit.
Matti Breschel of Team Rabobank and Sergio Luis Henao of Team Sky grabbed the second and the third positions respectively with an equal number of 60 points.
