Arsenal defender and Swiss international, Johan Djourou has admitted that he has no problems with filling in at the right back position for the Gunners, despite being a natural centre back.
The defender was brought in to fill in for Carl Jenkinson in the Gunners Champions League game against Marseille and went on to put in a decent performance during the game.
In fact, it was the defenders cross, which fell in a very dangerous area and resulted in the Gunners scoring their winning goal in the game.
When talking about his love for the game and his willingness to play at the right back position, Djourou is quoted to have said: “I am a centre-back first, but I love my game, I love playing football and when I can play, it’s a relief.”
“So if I have to play right back to help the team, then I will do it. It worked out against Marseille because I played the final ball for the goal.
“Obviously it’s tough for Carl and Bacary, but I’ve played there before. I played there in 2008 in games against Portsmouth and Bolton, so I’ve played a few times there. I just want to play football.
“It’s a completely different game, when you play at centre back. You can see the whole game in front of you, but when you’re on the wing, you have to adjust a little bit.”
Arsenal seem to be rather shaky in the right back spot, ever since http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Bacary-Sagna-c7148 went on to pick up a leg fracture in the North London derby. Jenkinson, who was supposed to be the immediate replacement for the player, has now also picked up a knock and it is going to be a while before either player is back.
As a result, the team has no option but to ask Djourou to fill in for the missing players. The Swiss international is currently making his way back from an injury, but the way he played against Marsielle proves that he is fitter than he has ever been.
It is now up to Arsene Wenger to try and get the defender to adapt to his temporary role at the club and in doing so, prevent the Gunners backline from being exposed yet again.
