Johan Santana is ready after resting for two extra days and will start on Friday - MLB Update
The New York Mets’ ace Johan Santana hails the decision of the manager Terry Collins of resting for two extra days. Following a no-hit outing against the St-Louis Cardinals, in order to render him fit for the next start, decision about a transient outage
from the ballpark was taken.
Santana states that he is feeling better and more energetic. Ready to assume the mound and continue throwing no-hitter games like he did last time, Santana spent time in bullpen on Tuesday.
He spoke of the comfort he felt and asserted the commitment as regard to taking the Mets to an enviable position in the season.
The time when Santana pitched on 2012 season opening day after a span of almost two years was not the easiest of moments for him. Having come back after such a long time and being thrust on the mound right away came with an added pressure of high expectations.
Beneath the heart he had a burden of meeting them. In light of the fact that shoulder surgery, he had gone through, more often kicks off a decline in power of a pitcher, some experts even raised questions over his ability to live up to the standard.
Let alone meeting the standard, one did not find a slightest glimpse of his decline and instead he has at-times exceeded what generally was being thought of him.
He boasts a 2.38 ERA in the season, which is far better than 3.08 that he has maintained throughout the career. Furthermore, number of his strike-outs stands at 68, which is another indication of an incredible performance he has put up in the season.
As of now, Santana sets his sights on Friday when he will be throwing against a rather formidable opposition, the New York Yankees. Against them, his excellence will be tested meticulously. Based on the performance so far, one can predict that he will prove
a challenge for the Yankees’ batters.
"Everything was fine," Santana said. "I threw my bullpen. Nothing's different. I feel good. I'll be ready for Friday."
The Mets are not far from claiming a top position on the National League East Division table, despite being at third currently.
As Santana starts on Friday, the Mets will be hoping that until then they will have registered couple of victories and that day will just be a continuation of those.
