Johan Santana taking steps forward after returning from shoulder surgery – MLB News
The New York Mets starting pitcher Johan Santana is in good spirits as he is tossing the ball with great energy at the 2012 Major League Spring Training in Arizona.
Though the after affects of his shoulder surgery have still not gone fully, but he somehow has overcome the lengthy and painful experience which caused him physical issues for the past one year.
Lately in Arizona, with rest of his team, Santana is preparing hard for the next season. During a press briefing, he talked to several media people and told them about his late recovery and how he feels about next season’s appearance.
Santana said, “I was try to keep it entertaining, keep everybody loose -- especially myself, I was waiting for today’s session because I knew were going to warm up and do an up and down type of bullpen where I would throw one inning and I’d sit down and then throw another inning."
He added, “Today was more of a game situation, where I got a couple of hitters standing up, getting a feel of hitters standing up at the plate and trying to locate my pitches while they’re there. I missed a few of them, but that’s the way we do it.”
Santana, a former Minnesota Twins’ player, certainly has happened to a very important part of the Mets’ roster. He missed the whole 2011 Major League season, but now feeling much better to play in the upcoming season.
Practicing with his team-mates, Santana is throwing fast in the bullpen. His team-mates are also happy for his potential arrival and hoping Santana will be exuberant whenever he throws in a Major League game.
An 11 year veteran, Santana is carrying a healthy 3.10 ERA along with 133-69 win loss record, 1877 strike-outs and 1.12 WHIP. His arrival is also important for the Mets. Last season is considered one of the worst seasons of their recent past when they were rattled by every team in their own League causing them big time. The Mets’ could not even qualify into the post season and came out from the competition humiliated.
