Durham County Cricket Club, on Monday handed a contract extension to its South African import, Johann Myburgh, who will now stay at Riverside until the end of the ongoing 2012 season.
"Johann's going to stay with us until September," Durham’s head coach http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Geoffrey-Cook-c58795 told BBC Newcastle.
"Having seen him in T20 cricket, we now have an opportunity to see a bit more evidence of him in the longer form," he added further.
The 31-year-old South African all-rounder earned the contract extension on the basis of his impressive performance during county’s Friends Life T20 campaign, where he scored a tally of 171 runs at 24.42, with a top tally of 46,
during the five-wicket win over Derbyshire at Derby, last month. He finished as the third highest run getter for the Dynamos this season, behind Herschelle Gibbs (277) and http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Phil-Mustard-c2183 (201).
The South African first-class cricketer, has to date played 45 Twenty20 matches, compiling 969 runs at a strike rate of 113.33, and taking 10 wickets as well with his part time off-spin.
Myburgh, who has previously played county cricket with http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Lancashire-c806 second XI, and claiming three
wickets as well.
http://www.senore.com/Cricket/HH-Gibbs-c1549, is also a South African.
Despite finishing third in the North Group, the Dynamos failed to reach the Flt20 quarterfinals. http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Worcestershire-c866 (Midlands Group) grabbed the two places available for the third best placed finisher.
Cook rued the ruthless weather for his side failing to make the knockout stage.
"It got to the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Leicestershire-c807 game, the penultimate game of the season and we had to win our final two games, but unfortunately it was washed out," said Cook.
"Again the weather has conspired a little bit (in the final game), although we didn't win the game, there was a little bit of a feeling of anti-climax. I think if it had been absolutely vital, we'd have got over the line," he added further.
