Johanna Gustafsdottir seizes Women’s 200m backstroke gold – USA Swimming Sectionals, Fort Lauderdale
Johanna Gustafsdottir of Golden Panther-F seized gold medal of the Women’s 200m backstroke on fourth day of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Fort Lauderdale on Sunday, July 15.
The 21-year-old Gustafsdottir stifled hopes of her challengers in the four-lap backstroke event as she showed her urgency towards the finishing wall for gold medal.
She gained prominent lead over her challengers from the start and earned gold medal of the discipline with the timing of 2 minutes and 17.52 seconds.
The gold medallist was trailed by Margaret Hohne of Ntc Aquatics-FL, who stayed two body lengths behind and sprinted her way towards the wall for silver medal by posting a time of 2 minutes and 19.46 seconds.
Third position of the discipline was secured by Justine A Ress of Santa Clara Swim, who remained 0.86 seconds behind and stepped on the medal rostrum with an effort of 2 minutes 20.32 seconds.
The bronze medallist was chased by Al Yambor-Maul of Area Tallahassee, who remained 0.63 seconds slower from her and hit the finishing blockade for fourth position by clocking a time of 2 minutes and 20.95 seconds.
Fifth position of the 200m discipline was obtained by Erin C Earley of Hopkins Mariner, who remained 1.07 seconds slower and touched the wall with the timing of 2 minutes and 22.02 seconds.
Early was followed by Fabiana Ingram of Lake Lytal Light, who stayed considerably slower from her and finished her race in sixth best place by posting a time of 2 minutes and 25.98 seconds.
Seventh fastest spot of the race was secured by Lauren C Piper of Area Tallahassee, who stayed 0.53 seconds behind and posted a time of 2 minutes and 26.51 seconds.
The 20-year-old Piper was chased by Rebecca Halfast of Saint Petersburg, who stayed one and a half body length behind and appeared on the finishing blockade as eighth position holder by producing an effort of 2 minutes and 27.88 seconds.
Gustafsdottir was pleased with her form in the 200m event and aroused hopes of her supporters by saying that she would struggle hard to attain the same in future events.
