Johanna Gustafsdottir wins Women’s 400m IM gold – USA Swimming Sectionals, Fort Lauderdale
Johanna Gustafsdottir of Golden Panther Aquatics won gold medal of the Women’s 400m Individual Medley (IM) on second day of the 2012 USA Swimming Sectionals in Fort Lauderdale on Friday, July 13.
The 21-year-old Gustafsdottir served notice of her talent as she smothered hopes of her challengers over the finishing end for the crown of the discipline.
With her unrelenting efforts, she remained four body lengths ahead of her strongest competitor, Sarra Lajnef of Gator Swim Club, as she appeared on the finishing end with the timing of 4 minutes and 53.70 seconds.
She was almost four seconds slower from Lajnef, who proved her audacity for silver medal of the discipline by reaching the finishing end with the timing of 4 minutes and 57.56 seconds.
Third spot of the discipline was secured by CeCe Williams of Area Tallahassee, who remained almost eight seconds apart and hit the finishing end with an effort of  5 minutes and 05.01 seconds.
The bronze medallist remained 0.78 seconds faster from Andreina Pinto of Gator Swim Club, who settled on the wall as fourth position holder by producing a time of 5 minutes and 05.79 seconds.
Fifth finest spot of the event was obtained by Anne Rademacher of Golden Panther Aquatics, who remained nearly 2.50 seconds away from Pinto and completed her race with the timing of 5 minutes and 08.25 seconds.
Rademacher was chased by Margaret Hohne of Ntc Aquatics-FL, who was 0.10 seconds behind and claimed sixth position of the discipline by ending her swim in a time of 5 minutes and 08.35 seconds.
The 15-year-old Hohne was followed by Avery Mohring of T2 Aquatics-FL, who was 0.78 seconds slower and secured seventh position of the event by clocking a time of 5 minutes and 09.13 seconds.
Eighth spot of the race was obtained by Emily M Kopas of Davie Nadadores, who stayed almost two body lengths apart and clocked a timing of 5 minutes and 11.02 seconds.
Gustafsdottir was satisfied with her victory in the distant IM discipline and aroused hopes of her supporters by saying that he would struggle hard to attain the same in future events.
