Johanna Larsson defeats Magali De Lattre; advances into the second round of the Estoril Open
22-year-old Swede Johanna Larsson eased past 23-year-old Portuguese wild card entrant, Magali De Lattre in straight sets on Monday. She registered a 6-3, 6-1 score line to advance into the second round of the 2011 Estoril Open
in Oeiras, Portugal.
World number 80 Larsson took down Lattre, ranked 306 places down her, in just sixty-three minutes in their first meeting ever. She hasn’t had much progress this season so far but displayed magnificent skills at Acapulco where she
reached the semi-finals before losing to sixth seeded Spaniard Arantxa Parra Santonja. She then exited in the early rounds from the proceeding tournaments she participated in, though she re-formed before entering Estoril Court Central.
Larsson stormed into the opening set and after her opponent held her serve in the first game, she unleashed flurry of ground strokes to win next four games in a row. The Swede later exchange two breaks and sealed the set with a
convincing 6-3 score line.
She had a lower first serve share but converted four out of seven breakpoint opportunities to her advantage. The Swede also clobbered less double faults to edge over Lattre.
Larsson carried her winning ways into the second set and reeled off first three games in a row through her quick forehands and backhands. She lost the fourth game but went on savage mode again and won the following three games
to clinch the set with a breadstick.
She again produced a lower first serve share of 61 percent as compared to Portuguese’s 82 percent but she registered a spectacular 93 percent win on it. The Swede conceded zero breakpoint and converted two out of three breakpoint
opportunities to her advantage to help her win easily.
Lattre on the other side of net played poorly throughout the match. She had a poor record this season and had won only a single match so far. She showed no chance of improvement and lost from the opening round from this WTA Premier
event as well.
The Swede will next face either fourth seeded Latvian Anastasija Sevastova or Polish Urszula Radwanska.
