Johanna Larsson upsets Shahar Peer in the 2nd Round – Texas Open 2011
The first upset of the Texas Open 2011 was when Johanna Larsson outplayed Shahar Peer in the second round on the hard courts of Hilton DFW Lakes in Grapevine, Texas. The two were meeting for the first time but Larsson took the
cake as she was able to secure a straight set victory of 6-2, 6-4
The 23-year-old Swede was dominant and never allowed Peer to set her rhythm over her. She won a special 80% of her total service points because of her strong forearm, against her opponent, who was only able to attain 4 of 20 points
making it a pitiable 20% of her total return points.
Larsson had managed to score average 48% points in her total return points won against Peer, who had only mustered a 52% win in her total service points of the set.
With a sturdy defence that did not falter, Larsson did not give her opponent a single opportunity to break her and instead broke her opponent twice which gave her a competitive edge over her Israeli rival, as she was only able
to save 3 out of the 5 break points.
By accomplishing 60% of her total set score, the Slovak powered through the first set, and also set the pitch for the second.
This time Peer had targeted 63% of her first severs but unfortunately lost most of her points because of a poor first serve performance but in the second she had an above average 60% win which alleviated her score to a total win
of 49% in the total service points. Her return was also a mediocre 45% and thus accomplished a total of 47% win of her total set score.
By grinding all her shots towards the baseline and utilizing her backhand, Larsson was capable of bagging a 51% win of her total return points and with an above average serve, she was able to accomplish a 53% win of the total set
score.
The only reason Larsson got an edge was because she was able to break her opponent’s serve and won on two consecutive points to bag the set by accomplishing 2 more points.
