Johannes Hagen clutches Boy’s Singles title in MBBC Jr. International 2012 – Badminton Update
The young but spirited shuttler Johannes Hagen proved his guts in Boy’s Singles Under-19 category of MBBC Jr. International and wore the crown after beating Mads Pliniussen on July 19, 2012.
Though, this final encounter was concluded in just two games but still both contenders entertained the crowd with a commendable show of skills at Manhattan Beach, California, USA.
They played their heart out and earned a great deal of admiration while piling up final margin of 21-16 and 21-10.
The Norwegian shuttler proved himself superior in all areas of game and locked the honour with a straight-set win.
Meanwhile, Mads Pliniussen put up a decent fight and walked tall despite going down in both sets of the match.
Johannes Hagen, who was also top ranked shuttler in this tournament, laid foundation of his supremacy straight away in the opening game and maintained the upper hand throughout this tussle.
He put his competitor under huge pressure by grabbing five consecutive points in the beginning and doubled the impact with an 8-3 total.
However, he could not carry this momentum in the next couple of rallies and allowed the opposing shuttler to narrow the gap with 7-9.
The Danish campaigner matched his rival’s skills until mid-game break and finished first half with a tight margin of 10-11.
Later part of the game proved to be the best segment, as both finalists made the crowd gasp with their breath-taking performance.
At first, Mads Pliniussen gained a decent advantage with 14-11 but then Johannes reinstated his supremacy with an unbeatable strategy. He pocketed 10 out of ending 12 points and won the first set with 21-16 score on the board.
The second set started with an interesting development as the losing contender of previous game enthralled his high ranked opponent with four uninterrupted points.
At this stage, the Norwegian player switched on the best in him and caught his challenger at 5-5 score position.
Both youngsters snapped at each other’s heels all the way to one-minute break and finished the first half with a tense situation of 11-8.
Unexpectedly, second half turned one-sided affair as Johannes ruled the court completely and secured the trophy with a staggering knock of 21-10.
