so, I'm trying to do research for an essay that's due soon

for my AP class,

and I'm writing about how Adam's decision to not enter war with the French effected America.

I've been reading and researching,

but I'm still a little unclear about what happened exactly.

could anyone please help me?

I think that Vice President Adams never really wanted to ally with France , but Ben Franklin pushed for the alliance due to the need for resources at the time of the American Revolution. this led to an obligation to help the French fight the British which did not happen at first. edit: YES France was an ally with the colonies during the American revolution against the British Crown, this alliance was not to Adams liking but he did what he had to that was in the best intrest of independence, France then needed our help later Against the British but our New country had trade motivations with Great Britian, tight spot eh? CHECK the HBO mini-series 7 or 8 parts Called "John Adams" very very good series rent it if you can.

  3. My best guess is that since America was still a fledgling nation fairly fresh off the Revolution, it really didn't want to get involved in another war so soon. But 1812, now that's a different story.
