John Arne Riise believes in Roma manager
John Arne Riise believes that Roma manager Claudio Ranieri will guide the club back to the top of Serie A.
Roma has had a terrible start to the season, and a 2-0 loss has put further pressure on Ranieri. Roma has won only one game so far this season, and find themselves in second to last position in the league, with only five points from six games.
Roma looked like they had returned to form in the past week after they beat Inter Milan 1-0. They also had a 2-1 win in their Champions League game against CFR Cluj-Napoca, but they failed to produce a similar performance against Napoli.
Riise said, "After two consecutive wins, we hoped to repeat the same success against Napoli. After a good first half, we let ourselves down, as Napoli played better in the second, and consolidated their dominance with two goals.”
"The players are as disappointed as our fans,” added the Norwegian left-back.
Roma must put their bad start to the season behind them and look towards their next game after the international break.
Riise will return from international duty after Norway visits Cyprus for their European 2012 qualifying match. The Norwegian defender knows that the players will have to work hard if they are to move up the table. Riise went on to say, "The side must now
work hard to gain the three points on offer in our next league match [against Genoa]."
Riise believes that last season was very similar to how they started this season, and is confident that Roma can come back.
"We are going through the same black period that we did last season, but then something changed and we were fighting for the Scudetto on the last day of the season. We need to find that same spirit, and I am convinced Ranieri will help us to gain glory,"
said Riise.
