John Barnes tips former club Liverpool as serious contenders for next season’s Premier League title
Former Liverpool winger, John Barnes, has tipped the Reds for greatness in the upcoming 2011/12 Barclays Premier League campaign. Barnes has claimed that Liverpool are strong contenders to win the League title next season.
The Reds have laid the foundation for success for the months and years to come thanks to their stellar form in the run-in to the current campaign. The club is currently in fifth place in the League standings, which may seem unacceptable for a club with such
a pedigree; however, it is absolutely amazing considering the fact that the Reds were floundering in the relegation zone at one point in the season.
Former Fulham boss, Roy Hodgson, was in charge of the club at the start of the current campaign. Under his guidance, Liverpool got off to their worst start in the League for more than 50 years. The club’s dismal form finally led to Hodgson’s dismissal in
December of last year, and fan favourite Kenny Dalglish was appointed in his stead.
The Scot has done wonders during his short time in charge at Anfield. Goals have started to flow for Liverpool, and the Reds have clawed their way up into the European places of the Premier League. It is a run that may well continue into the next season.
The Liverpool legend believes that his former side is getting back to winning ways, something that may allow them to mount a serious title challenge in the upcoming Barclays Premier League campaign. However, he claims that Kenny Dalglish will have to bring
in reinforcements during the summer transfer window if http://www.senore.com/Football-soccer/Liverpool-c39809 are to have any chance of winning the title.
Speaking on the matter, Barnes said, “The timescale [of challenging for the league] depends on the quality of the players they can get in. If they don’t bring much more quality in to this squad, then I don’t think they can win the title next year, they can
only progress.”

He added, "But with a little bit more investment, getting two or three quality players into the squad, I think they could challenge next year. But it really does depend on who they get."
Liverpool are currently in fifth place in the Premier League standings with 58 points.
