John Benaud: http://www.senore.com/Cricket/RT-Ponting-c2377 needs to decide on his future himself – Cricket News Update
Australia’s former selector, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Benaud-c67398, urged the legendary batsman, Ricky Ponting, to decide on his future himself, as he is not giving his 100 % on the field.
Benaud asserted that the 36-year-old batsman, who has not been consistent with his batting performance in recent times, needs to be honest with self evaluation, as he knows better about himself.
Meanwhile, the Sydney-born former selector advised the master batsman to leave cricket with respect, as he has been serving the country outstandingly.
''It would be sensible for http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Ricardo-Gouveia-c84824 to … say to himself 'is this going to end in tears or do I really, really have the talent that I had five years ago? Maybe two years ago,” he shared while talking to the media.
Benaud, who worked as a selector from 1988 to 1993, also showed disappointment over the performance of Australia’s former captain.
He added that the way the great batsman has been striving to score runs proves that Ponting cannot cement a place in the side with unsatisfactory performance.
''I think the signs have been there a little while that he's been struggling a bit. His form doesn't appear to be holding out much in the way of good news in the future,” Benaud added in same interview.
In the meanwhile, Benaud, who also represented http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Australia-c746 in 3 Test matches, cited that if Ponting fails to regain his form, he would reach the end of his outstanding career in a disappointing manner.
''Ricky just looks all at sea, that might be a bit harsh but he's not the player he was … I just think he runs the risk of it all ending in tears if he's not careful,'' the 67-year-old quoted.
Furthermore, the former all-rounder stressed that if Ponting does not perform during the upcoming Test match against http://www.senore.com/Cricket/South-Africa-c757, the national selection panel should not select him in future, considering the better interest of the side.
The Tasmania-born batsman, Ponting, who started his International career in 1995, has played 155 Tests, and 370 ODIs for Australia, scoring 12495, and 13686 runs with outstanding averages of 52.72, and 42.63 respectively.
