John Booth: Suzuka is one of the drivers’ most favourite tracks on F1 calendar – Formula 1 news
Virgin Racing Team team principal John Booth has said that Suzuka is one of the drivers’ most favourite circuits on the Formula 1 race calendar.
Booth added that Suzuka is a very challenging as well as technical circuit in the sport with continuous directional changes.
The Grove-based outfit principal also mentioned that their team driver Jerome d’Ambrosio enjoyed the 2011 Singapore race and now, they are sure he will keep his momentum in the last five rounds of the 2011 Formula 1 season.
Other than d’Ambrosio, Booth talked about Timo Glock and stated that Glock was disappointed with his retirement from the Singapore Grand Prix, as he could not complete the race on one of his favourite tracks due to an accident.
Talking to reporters, Booth commented, “The F1 fraternity was heartbroken to see the devastation caused by the earthquake and Tsunami eight months ago and the widespread suffering as a result, so our return there this year will be all the more poignant.”
He discussed the track and mentioned, “Two critical points are the S-turns, a flowing combination of five corners where it is important to get the entry right; and the Spoon Curve, a double left taken as one, where it is crucial to find the perfect line
and carry momentum into the following straight.”
The VRT principal further added that they are in the final phase of the ongoing season, and therefore they are looking forward to successful race weekends for their best possible end in the 2011 title fight.
Both of the drivers Glock and d’Ambrosio have been unable to perform well in the season so far. VRT are still in the same form, where they were at the start of the 2011 championship fight.
In the 2011 Singapore Grand Prix, d’Ambrosio started his race from the 22nd position on the grid and after fighting it out with his rivals, he ended up in the 18th spot.
His teammate Glock retired from the Singapore race weekend due to an accident after completing 9 laps at the Marina Bay Street Circuit.
The Suzuka race will take place on October 9, 2011 in Japan. Let’s see how VRT perform at the legendary circuit this weekend.
