John Booth says he is confident for Virgin’s Italian GP results with new upgrades – Formula 1 news
Virgin Racing Team boss John Booth has said that he is confident for his team’s results in the upcoming Italian Grand Prix, as they will race with new upgrades at the Monza racetrack on September 11, 2011.
Booth added that he is hopeful the new updates in their MVR-02 car will provide them a comfortable race at Monza this weekend.
He commented, “Here the emphasis is on engine power and aerodynamic efficiency, which require the cars to be set up with a special low-downforce aerodynamic profile to minimise drag. This can make the car a bit difficult to handle, particularly on the brakes
for the first and second chicanes.”
Booth went on to mention, “We will have it, all being well, for Monza. It is engine cover, sidepods, exhaust, and rear floor. Obviously there will be a Monza wing as well, but this bodywork package will be on for the rest of the year. It will pull the whole
back of the car in much tighter.”
The team boss told the media that they focused on the engine power and aerodynamic efficiency of their car for the Monza race. However, he stated that he is confident they can carry speed on the high-speed corners and the long straights of the Monza racetrack
during the Grand Prix with some developments in their 2011 car.
After coming back from 2011 August break, VRT were again unable to perform well on the grid with their package. In the last race of the ongoing season, both of the drivers were slow at the Spa-Francorchamps racetrack.
Virgin Racing Team driver Jerome d’Ambrosio came at the 17th position after starting from the 20th position on the grid in Belgium. His teammate Timo Glock started his Belgium Grand
Prix from the 19th position and after putting all of his efforts, he finished his race in the 18th position behind his teammate d’Ambrosio.
Let’s see how both of the drivers manage their race with the new upgrades in Italy following their disappointing Belgium race weekend.
