The Ghana defender has been awarded for his impressive all-round display at Stade Rennais since the start of the new season
The current first choice defender bagged 45.5 % of the total votes on a poll that is conducted on facebook every month. The nearest rival to challenge the spectacles of Boye was Jean-Armal Kana-Biyik. The 23-year-old Cameroon national however, could only
mustered 63 votes as opposed to the 118 grabbed by the Ghana International.
The third in line was the wanted man, Yann M’Villa, who could only get 10% of the fans interest. M’Villa had attracted strong interest from top flight Premier League clubs all summer, but, the defensive midfielder did not readily enjoy the start to the new
campaign as had been anticipated.
Benedict Costil, Mevlut Erding, Vincent Pajot, Romain Danze, Sadio Diallo, Jonathan Pitroipa, and Kevin Theophile-Catherine were the other Rennes players who featured on the poll but, could only muster a mere few votes.
However, the player who caught interest from all and sundry was the 25-year-old Boye, who has played for Rennes in all the matches apart from one in the new campaign. The former Heart of Lions player has made tremendous headway during his time in the B team
of Rennes and now seems to form an integral part in Frederic Antonetti’s plans.
The talented defender, who can also play in midfield, has already been tipped as a strong contender for the next month’s player of the month award. Only players with excellent performances are tipped by fans to this award, deemed as the club’s “Hermine”
for the respective month.
The versatile defender and midfielder had seen his form touching new heights both at the club level and at International level too. In particular, his form in the current year has been too exceptional. The timely and well placed tackles of the Ghana man
have earned him this accolade by the fans.
Not only did the player impressed for the Red and Blacks, Boye had also been tipped as one of the best performers at the 2012 Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon and Equatorial Guinea.
