http://www.senore.com/Cricket/John-Marshall-Buchanan-c68302 let me down when I needed him the most says Brett Lee – Cricket News Update
Autobiographies seem to be today’s ‘in’ thing amongst the cricketers – with players like http://www.senore.com/Cricket/SR-Watson-c2558,
the nation’s fastest bowler, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Brett-Lee-c48419, has also come out with a censure in his version, titled ‘My Life’, where the pacer stated that he came close to bidding farewell to the sport after the former Aussie Coach, John Buchanan, turned down on a pledge with
the speedster.
Edifying the incident in his Thursday’s released book, Lee relates the incident back to the first Ashes game in 2006 at the Gabba when his ex-wife gave birth to a son; but prior to this, http://www.senore.com/Cricket/Buchanan-c48808 had promised Lee that he could join the team an afternoon
before the first Test match against the English tourists.
However, soon after Lee was blessed with a child, the former coach, and now the http://www.senore.com/Cricket/New-Zealand-c754 Director of Cricket, went against his words and asked Lee to reunite with the team, four days before the Test game – and according to the pacer, it was totally impossible
for him to do so.
The Sydney Morning Herald quoted Lee as citing “He congratulated me, and then said I had to link up with the team on Saturday night, which was four days before the Test would begin.”
“I adamantly said that wasn’t possible, because I wanted to take Preston and Liz home on the Monday. I told Buck I’d fly to Brisbane straight after that, but he knocked back the idea. Buck had turned on what he’d initially said. I was in the hospital and
told him firmly that I wasn’t going to leave Liz and Preston to get home by themselves while I went for a walk and a chat with my teammates”.
Lee further added that after Buchanan’s behaviour, he had lost his support and that he let the bowler down when he needed him the most.
Nevertheless, Lee did manage to make an appearance on the Ashes series, retaining his usual imposing bowling style which aided the speedster to snatch 20 wickets from 5 matches, at an average of 33.20, including his best haul of 4 wickets for 47.
