John Buchanan says CA needs high-performance director: Cricket News
Australian John Buchanan, who will take control of New Zealand Cricket's high performance programme as director soon, says Cricket Australia (CA) needs to have a similar post if they want to regain their lost glory.
The 58-year-old stated wholesale changes are not needed. However, he said that the role of head coach, Tim Nielsen, of Australia will be scrutinised because of the new position.
Buchanan has coached the Australian cricket team for eight years from 1999 and, guiding them to three World Cup titles and a record of 16 wins in a row in Test matches. He has been considered as one of the most remarkable coaches of the Australian cricket
team.
While talking to the media, Buchanan expressed, “It (director of cricket) is relatively new in cricket and probably overdue. I’m sure it is [a position that will be considered by other nations] and it will be interesting to see whether Cricket Australia
in their review process, what they might recommend in terms of this type of position and their high-performance program.”
He added that he have seen the programme work in a whole range of sports including the AFL and NRL clubs. He said that although he did not know the changes the new post would bring, yet he thought it was on CA's discussion table.
Former Aussie player said that the main objective of the inquiry is to review the coaching strategy, which should result in the improvement of the team. He added that this inquiry is expected to conclude in August 2011. Buchanan is of the view that many
scrutinies are under process, as the former Sri Lankan coach Trevor Bayliss has been appointed by NSW.

experience.
