John Buck condones Bryce Harper’s bat hammering act on the plate - MLB Update
The Miami Marlins’ catcher John buck receives apology from the Washington Nationals’ outfielder Bryce Harper after the latter hammered his bat on the plate on being struck-out by Ricky Nolasco. The catcher has condoned his act, realising that the outfielder
is still very young. One can expect the rookies bursting out in such manners after not getting things to work the way they want, he maintains.
Even since announcing himself onto the Major League stage, Harper has gone through various incidents that point to his youthful flamboyance. Whenever he struggles on the plate, he is vulnerable to his temperament.
On number of occasions, he has indicated his indignation over himself after failing to play in a desired manner.
The fact he is just 19-year-old has made the experts contend that he will learn with time. As he spends few years in the Majors, he will be better able to differentiate the mannerism that is acceptable in the Minors and the one in front of the whole world.
Thankfully for Harper that Marlins’ catcher John Buck was gracious enough to pardon him after being made to recoil behind the plate by his act. Instead of reacting to it, he immediately accepted the confession from Harper’s part of his mistake and let the
matter dissipate right away.
John even went on to say that when he was young he used to do the similar kinds of things. He however hopes that Harper will not repeat it. Next time when he comes across the same situation, he will restrain his instinctive blows from unleashing before the
whole world.
“I saw it hit and that’s why I kind of jumped away,” Buck said. “He told me he was really sorry, it was terrible. I told him, ‘Don’t worry about it. I did the same thing, but when I was your age it was a metal bat and I was in high school.’ It’s a learning
experience for him. He’s just having to do it in front of the eyes of the whole country and the world. I bet you he probably won’t do that any more.”
Harper cannot afford to be reckless on the plate next time. For this, the Nationals’ manager Davey Johnson will be spending a special advisory session with him.
