John Cena clutches second place in Power 25 list - WWE Rankings
The new WWE Champion, John Cena, was moved to second place on the Power 25 list of the WWE this week. The ranking was recalculated by The Academy of Wrestling Arts and Science at the start of the week and the number two spot was given to him because of his
championship victory over The Miz.
Cena lost the championship at WrestleMania XXVII against the Miz because of a confrontation with the People’s Champion, The Rock. Cena was dropped to fifth place due to that loss and Cena challenged the Rock for a WrestleMania XXVIII match. On April 11,
Cena and R-Truth remained the last two for the number one contender match against the WWE Champion.
The Anonymous Raw General Manager announced that both Truth and Cena would face Miz at Extreme Rules. Cena again jumped up to second place in Power 25 list because of this. Cena then partnered with Sin Cara to beat Miz and Riley in a tag team match on April
18 which rocketed him to first place on the list. In the same night, John Morrison defeated Truth in a challenge match and became the contender for the WWE Championship.
On April 25, Cena was drafted to Friday Night SmackDown. He lost the six-man tag team match to the Raw Team because of Mark Henry. The Raw Team consisted of Miz, CM Punk and Alberto Del Rio while the SmackDown Team was comprised of Cena, Henry and Christian.
After losing the match, Cena was again drafted to Raw. The loss in the six-man tag team match caused Cena to drop from first place and he was ranked fifth in the Power 25 list on April 30.
The professor of thugonomics would have his revenge at Extreme Rules. Cena took an incredible victory over Miz and Morrison in a Triple Threat Match. Cena became the new WWE Champion at Extreme Rules after a brutal match and one day after that, Miz demanded
a championship match again. Miz won the match thanks to Alex Riley but later on, the referee observed and disqualified Miz for cheating. Cena remained the champ because of the disqualification of the Miz.
The Rock celebrated his birthday on May 2 on Monday Night Raw. After a championship victory over Miz, Cena met the Rock in his birthday room. He showed him his WWE title and promised that he would keep the championship until WrestleMania XXVIII and would
fight with Rock in a WWE title match.
The victory at Extreme Rules and Monday Night Raw gave second place to Cena in this week’s list. It is expected that Cena will grab the first place in next week’s ranking.
