John Daly believes Thongchai Jaidee to win a major soon
For long, Thongchai Jaidee has been the flag carrier for the Asians on the European and the PGA Tour. This year, as well, Jaidee has been very successful.
Not only has he been victorious on the Asian Tour but he has also won on the European Tour this year.
His official world golf rankings might not pose a pretty picture but the fact is that he is ranked 32 in the Race to Dubai standings. This shows that he has the class and calibre to play among the best of the world.
John Daly, another American veteran, has come out in support of the Thai number one. Daly believes that Jaidee will come out of his shell and win a major soon.
Daly himself has been a two-time major winner back in the 1990s but since then has struggled due to his on and off the course problems.
"I think Thongchai Jaidee is probably the most consistent and best Asian player," Daly said, according to an Asian Tour press release.
In the recent past, the Thai has been the most consistent and top ranked Asian player. In his career, he has won five times on the European Tour, including a victory this season as well. His five victories on the European Tour speak for his competence.
"For an Asian Tour player, he is the most consistent guy and one of the greatest guys I have ever met. He is just a great ambassador for Asia. I just feel like he will soon pick up a Major”.
Thongchai has been a three-time winner on the Asian tour this season. "I want to play well there, not only for the fans but also because of the world ranking points," Thongchai said, ahead of the Thailand Open.
Only one Asian has won the major so far in the history of golf. Y.E. Yang defeated Tiger Woods at the 2009 PGA Championship to clinch his first and only major title.
The field at the Amata Spring is pretty massive as the likes of Bubba Watson, Charl Schwartzel, Darren Clarke and Lee Westwood are featuring in this year’s event.
