John Daly commits to participate in the Barclays Singapore Open
The two-time major champion John Daly has been added to the published field of the Barclays Singapore Open, slated to start from November 8, 2012.
The prestigious co-sanctioned event by the Asian Tour and the European Tour will be played at the Sentosa Golf Club, featuring some of the prominent names from different parts of the world.
The other major champions who have already committed to participate in the event include YE Yang, Darren Clarke, Rory McIlroy and Phil Mickelson.
The three time winner of the tournament Adam Scott will also make a return to Asia’s richest tournament this season, after missing out on a chance of defending the title last year.
Although Daly depends on the sponsor exemptions to participate in the events, he is currently enjoying a decent form. Recently, he recorded a fifth-place finish at the Reno-Tahoe Open.
According to the golf commentators, Daly’s confirmation to feature in the event will give a huge boost to the 49th staging of the event this year.
Yang, in the meantime, will also be a man to watch, as he is currently enjoying a good form. In 2009, he became the only Asian player to record a victory in the major golf championships.
He won the 2009 US PGA Championship by outshining the legendary Tiger Woods, who entered the final round with a two-stroke lead.
Chris Jordan, Senior Vice-President, Golf, of tournament promoters World Sport Group, expressed his pleasure after receiving confirmations from big names in the world of golf to participate in the event.
"It's fantastic that three true characters of the game - John Daly, Y. E. Yang and Darren Clarke - will play the Barclays Singapore Open this year,” he said.
McIlroy and Mickelson, who have been enjoying great forms in the recent times, will be the strongest contenders in Singapore.
The Northern Irishman has won a total of four PGA Tour events this season and is currently the hottest player on the US circuit.
He has not tasted success on the European Tour so far this season. However, he is confident to make that happen next month when he tees off at the US$6 million tournament.
